FALL RIVER — Congrats to Matt Silvia for being voted as the Herald News Player of the Week for the week of June 12-19.
The Durfee baseball player pitched five innings in a win against Case, allowing just one run. He also had a double, an RBI and walked twice.
He collected 38% (202 votes out of 528) from the voters to take first place.
Silvia beat out Diman softball player Emma Medeiros (20%) and Bishop Connolly softball player Sarah Duarte (12%).
Other athletes receiving votes were Somerset Berkley’s Chris Cabral, Bishop Connolly Jake McLaughlin, Somerset Berkley softball player Sydney Bednarz, Diman softball player Patryce Vital and Durfee track and field star Daniel Keating.
Every week during the high school, the Herald News will ask readers to cast their votes for Player of the Week among Greater Fall River athletes.
Winners are announced on Monday.
The poll begins on Tuesday and ends on Friday at 6 p.m.
